What NPC faction to choose?

Here's the thing, I cannot make a decision about which NPC faction to roleplay as.

I want to:

-Be a bad guy, a pirate or something, hanging around tradelanes and such.
-Be able to explore everywhere, without completely ignoring my ZOI (Can't explore the omicrons as a Lane Hacker)

And the other question is, should I fly a LF, a VHF or a Bomber?

Well anyway, as far as I know, you can only do all this if you're an Outcast or Corsair, is that right? What if I'm and independant Lane Hacker, can I still explore the Omicrons and Omega's? And which ships would be recommended?

Also, how does one typically get their guards rep up?
And, is there a list where you can buy equipment and ships that is not outdated (such as the wiki)?.
