Gaians and Corsairs

The alliance could also work as a formality, for the Hogosha to be allowed to use their equipment. Unless the faction charts remained the same, it's difficult for the Hogosha to justify the use of 1-2 corsair weapons, and even a corsair gunboat in the rarest of occurances. I don't think the situation is exactly the same as the cardamine and blood daimond trade. Like all comparisons there are correlations, but no two comparisons are exact. We deal with the corsairs for artifacts, and military assets in order to maintain our control on the market- maybe not the grounds for an alliance, but an increased level of understanding between the two factions. And if not for this reason- than simply as a formality for the use of corsair technology on the hogosha behalf.

We also share the Outcasts as a direct enemy which further cements the need for a Corsair / Hogosha alliance.

Eh well my views on people using a lot of allied technology is pretty volatile so I'll try not to get in to that.

But as you've listed it, what do the Corsairs get? They could find someone to sell their artifacts without having to ally with them (junkers can get to the hawaii, independent smuggler can ship in kusari), and this way, they have to give out their unique technology (del cids are a pretty unique case amongst weapons). Seems like this benefits the Hogosha a lot and the Corsairs not really at all.

The Hogosha play a big part in keeping the Outcasts out of Kusari which makes it more difficult for them to spread their Cardamine and for doing so the Corsairs give us military technology. And indie smugglers could never move Artifacts in the large amounts the Hogosha do. For an indie smuggler in Kusrai the artifacts are an illegal commodity, for Hogosha ONLY it is a legal trade. Also the Hogosha jealously guard the Kusari black market and don't allow much room for competition. If you want to move anything through Kusari, you need to be in business with the Hogosha. And Junkers are a mute point, they are not allowed in Kusari at all.

So, benefits for the Corairs:
1. A direct mutual ally against the Outcasts.
2. The only real way of getting Artifacts into Kusari.
3. A direct link of getting artifcts to Kusari, no middle man needed which means more profit for everyone.

All this and more (since it's early and my brain isn't awake yet) makes the Hogosha one of the closest allies of the Corsairs. The Hogosha are one of the few that actually meets with the Corsairs regularly as well. Yes, they are viewed as gaijin, but they are very necessary for the money and technology that they share with the Hogosha.
