well, you have good reasons there - but its really also an incentive to spice up the gaian faction, that is - while constantly active - running on a low flame.
- and sure, the GC could probably build a gunboat, too.

errr... do they "need" one? i mean in RP - not just as another feature... i always though of the GC as a swarm of mostly lighter ships. - gaians however, - to me, everything in bretonia is rather "heavy".

There are other ways to spice up a faction. More bases, better weapons, new places to interact. Making their enemies more active. Their own shipline is of course among them, but jumping straight to a GB without any fighters is sorta... weird.

And the GC probably can no longer use the BD GB. Like you said, gunboats are a very effective piracy tool, and the GC are pirates as well as freedom fighters. In addition, the GB could come in handy trying to overthrow the Kusari government. Granted, the GMG crushed the Rheinland navy without caps, but the GMG were fighting on their own turf, in one system which they knew well, as opposed to the GC, who are fighting in multiple systems against an entire House military and police.
