The Star Shepherd could still be attractive, and nobody said it wouldn't be combat capable. Indeed, it'd probably be built like a brick latrine to absorb as much enemy fire as it liked, and be able to dish out enough of its own to severely punish anyone who dared to attack it, in the true Bretonian tradition.

EDIT: Much like a prettier Corsair Lunchbox, come to think of it.

EDIT: [12:28:31 AM] Brad {Ktayn}: I like the idea of a heavy gunboat with a decent capacity hold
[12:28:57 AM] Brad {Ktayn}: maybe as a drawback, due to the design, the guns would have limited fire range
[12:29:33 AM] Brad {Ktayn}: ooh, make it like Bretonian ships - strafes well but turns slow, then give it lots of forward firepower, less rearfire, and decent cargo
