The frigate has serious disadvantages over both Cruisers and Battleships with no thruster and lower speed than a BS. Maneuverability is far worse than Cruisers as befits the position between Cruiser and Battleship.
Slide speed is fairly low. Some battleships are better. I would agree that the 2 battleship guns are unnecessary(due to power requirements), however power usage is something that everyone needs to deal with in their own way. An Assault Frigate cannot continuously fire 2 cruiser inferno or battle razors.
Take away the battleship shield and it becomes a sitting duck for pretty much everything. I would rather be in a battleship, cruiser or destroyer if that were to happen...
