The commander looks out over his ship from the Bridge. Through the nebula he can barely see past the Varyags bow, but he knew he was close. 15k to Vogtland, Commander the Navigator calls out. The commander sat in his chair and brought up communications from the display floating in front of him. Vogtland base, this is Markus Heissner of the Varyag, sending data now A male voice comes back over the consoles tinny speaker, Welcome back Commander, we are clearing traffic in the hanger for you. You are clear to approach
Outside of the near moon sized asteroid, a set of massive doors come to life. Floodlights pierce the local mist casting long beams from the rock face. The 500 meter ship slows down to a crawl outside of them. As the massive blast doors open to their full width, the turrets of the Varyag move to their stow positions, gunners inside safe their fire controls. Heissner looks up at the communications officer, Have Ackart meet me in my state room as soon as he can, I need to speak with him. The commander turned over the ship to the officer of the watch and walked out. He met his XO coming up the narrow walkway as he left the bridge. That was fast Erich, things going well down there? The XO was still wiping some blood from his hands on an old towel, Heh Bounty hunters, they are just playing hard to get Sir. They will talk soon. Both men walk into the state room and sit down. The CO smiles at Ackart. Today is the day; we are going to see Meisnerr when we land. The XO leans back in his chair, Todays the day huh, the crew will be happy. After a short drink the men get up and leave, The XO sets off to find the ships master gunner Gregor Heaton and the CO heads back to the bridge.
The Varyag moves slowly through the expansive hanger. Its three massive engines pulse the area as it passes. Small groups of mechanics can be seen in the individual hangers refitting various fighters. A pair of Oden and a Thor buzz the Varyags bridge. The powerful engines and power plant of the Thor shake the floor violently. Heissner looks up and smiles. You tell those HT boys good luck out there. The hunters are out in force today. The Varyag slows and takes a hard left. The ship creeps forward and settles into a flexible docking moor. Large hydraulic arms reach out and cradle her as the ship settles to the hanger floor. Several small ramps drop as service vehicles race up and attach umbilical to the ship. A band of bloody prisoners are quickly marched to a waiting vehicle.
The Commander, XO and Master Gunner walk down the ramps with a few crew members. Overhead the light pinging of cooling metal can be heard from the still hot cannon. A slightly suppressed smile briefly appears on the commanders face. The trio walks through the hanger to the RHA HQ in the rock base. The XO is carrying several neatly bound volumes. As the men walk into the HQ several familiar faces are seen in the tasks preparing for patrols. The XO tosses a smile to a pilot in the room. Today is it Bastian. The pilot gave a quick smile and a nod. About damn time" he replies.
As they approach the Colonels door it is opened by an assistant and the three step before Meissner and present each of the three documents to him. Each bears the name of a ship pressed into a leather folder. Stenciled in gold are the names RHC-10 Varyag, RHGB Panther and Messerschmidt's Reaver. On each is the Varyags Ship motto, Semper Paratus. The CO steps back after handing the folders to Meisnerr. Here are the papers I have promised you sir. Inside are the ships service logs, crew status and training readiness reports. My men stand ready to fly under the RHA flag sir. The Commander points to each of his companions. Here on my right is my XO and Captain of the Panther, Eric Ackart. To my left sir is my master gunner and scout Gregor Heaton. They are here to represent the crew of the Varyag and the Panther as well as to witness the christening of our small force to RHA command.
