Comrades, the time has come for change. Too long have the people suffered under the aristocratic yoke, too long has the chancellor oppressed the proletariat. It is time for us to take back what is ours.
My name is Josef Marks. Professor, New Berlin University department of history. A professor must be careful of what he says. The long arm of the chancellor is never very far from campus, and one never knows what is being heard. I have always sympathized with the Volk, but never have I defied the Reich openly. So I existed, walking the line on my lectures, always careful of what I said.
One month ago, I submitted a paper to the university history journal. I had been crafting this article for a long time. I will not bother you with the details of "Post-war social renewal and revitalization", but it was my passion. I have travelled all over the republic to research this article. It was to my great surprise when my article was returned to me two weeks ago, unmarked but for an "unaccepted" scrawled at the top. Angrily, I contacted the journal, awaiting their justification. I received a call from the editor, a friend of mine. He informed me that the article had been denied by the government censors that were present. When I asked what an article concerning the history of 100 years ago has to do with censors, my friend merely told me that there was never a justification to such denials.
In the past two weeks, my mail has arrived, ripped open and read. A censor has attended each of my lectures. I am certain that my house is bugged. I cannot live like this. I have resigned my post as professor and I will remain quiet no longer. In one hour, every speaker on campus will begin to broadcast a spoken version of my paper. I have made many friends on campus, a few who are rather competent with computers. I feel this to be an appropriate compensation. I leave the campus now, unsure of where to go.
I will come, if the Volksfront will take me. Too long have the people suffered, for them I will fight, for them I will cast down the fascist regime.
