Here's how I pirate (quite successfully too)

1) Personally, I prefer to pirate in the edge worlds. If you pirate in house space you should expect police or military to attack you, in my opinion.

2) I never demand more than one million, less depending on the cargo and size of transport.

3) Justify your piracy. In my Hessian, I talk about how the oppressed need money and the big corporations owe it to the little guy to share the wealth.

4) I find that more than a few traders will be willing to sit and RP with you if you don't go crazy and knock off their shields and 99% of their hull.

5) Only pew-pew if the trader hasn't cooperated after a few minutes.
