I was wondering exactly why the Order and the Corsairs are allies. Is it just because they're close to each other, and that the Corsairs also don't like the Nomads?

OORP reason was that Order didn't have anything to do at all. Back then (I'm talking about Discovery back two years ago, 4.83 and earlier) they weren't really at war with BHG and there was no nomad player faction. Nomads were left untouched from vanilla, no one was playing them and, as a matter of fact, it was forbidden to. Given such situation you could say they had no big purpose to exist, pretty much. Basically Order folk were just sitting there in Omicron Minor blowing dust from their ships and smoking bamboo. But of course players who came just finishing the campaign were very excited that they could make Order characters here at Discovery... but only to realize they had no enemy, no goal and no purpose. A hero's dream crash course. So-o-o... To give them something to do they were put into bridle with the Corsairs. That's pretty much it, in a nutshell. Not to void all the role-play done about it in these years that alliance is still here. I guess that deviation from their original duty came very convenient to explain Nomads secretly amassing forces while the Order was busy with Corsair affairs... :-)
