I recently reinstalled freelancer after I discovered the mods that had been created for it. I Haven't played in years, and never played multi player, but this looks like it will be a lot of fun.
I do have a concern though; it seems there are rules for everything! I like playing a trader, but it seems as if I cant just buy X on planet A and sell it on planet B since rules tell me what and where I can buy and sell, which paths I can and cannot take to get there, what ships I can and cannot use, and if I mess up any of these rules then I lose millions of credits or get banned for 30+ days.
I am sure it is not quite as complicated once I start playing and get used to it, but it looks like quite the ordeal to get settled into the universe.
I read over the newbie guides that I could find on the forums, which answered some questions, but I still have a few more.
1. I think I primarily want to run trade routes, but sometimes I like to mix it up and go blow stuff up. It does not seem like good RP to just change lifelong occupation on a whim. So, am I stuck trading forever?
2. A couple of friends would probably start playing with me. The Discovery universe sounds pretty dangerous, and they like to fly fighters, so they would probably escort me around the galaxy (if we are permitted to travel through the entire galaxy) keeping me alive and I would split the profits with them. Is that allowed, or do we need to join an already existing faction and do what their higher ups ask? It seems at a certain level (40?) you cant just be a civilian cruising planet to planet and have to affiliate with someone.
3. The threads I read mentioned fines of millions of credits, pirates demanding millions of credits, etc. That is a ton of money! I am going to be starting out with 500, right? How am I supposed to get a million credits to pay a pirate ransom if everyone else in the galaxy is already flying a 50,000,000 credit death machine?
Overall the mod looks great, and I am excited at the prospect of playing on a multi player server. If someone could give me some feedback on my questions I'd really appreciate it.
