Wow, thanks for all the replies. I am glad to see this forum so active. I hope the server is too. The FL universe is fairly large. How often do you bump into another player? I'd assume I am not going to see pirates at every tradelane stop, but what about every run?

My suggestion for you would be to fly with a Smuggler ID. It allows you to do lawful trade, but also gives you more avenues of Roleplay by Smuggling. Either the Firefly or Pirate Transport would be a good choice of vessel.
I will read up on the difference between smuggling and trading. Smuggling does sound more fun. I would imagine a ship with 3500 cargo space takes a very long time to work towards. I like the "build yourself from rags to riches" idea that was mentioned earlier. What level til you can buy one? I'd guess it takes a few weeks of casual play.

I use F1 in single player to pause the game, but I assume in multi it does something else? Disconnect is my guess. Or some other dirtbag trick that prevents the pirate from blowing you up.
