I agree, it would be like using Corsair ships with an Outcast contract (although not that extreme). Perhaps the Spatial can act as a Gunboat, I fought one with my old Corsair Gunboat character and it put up a pretty good fight, and the Zoner Gunboat would be ok with only 4 guns it would need a brilliant pilot to defeat a Corsair Gunboat.

Mercenary factions are difficult to establish with any real longevity in game. And the ship choice is one way of establishing that. You cannot have two masters - all real life mercenary organisations have at least some political influence in their choice of work. Even the most amoral, apolitical "dogs of war" are individuals and allow moral and political considerations to shape their career paths.
I agree, and the main one I see is war. War opens up new contracts for Mercenary companies, two sides and fighting as you pick the highest payer to assist. Some examples are Bretonia and Kusari, Liberty and Rheinland, the Corsairs and the Outcasts, the BHG and pirates, Houses and Gallia (is that right, i didn't hear if Gallia is hostile to the houses or not). Another example is the war with the Order and the BHG. I'm not sure if they like to say it, but it looks to me that the Order are losing. When I had my Order character I couldn't stand the constant attacks so I deleted it, and i've heard it's goten worse. What would they pay if a powerful Mercenary company came around, offering services in defence against the Bounty Hunters?
