Well I've given myself a day to calm down so I'll try and put this as nicely as possible.
Dab and Nightfall and others of the same ilk: do you keep a count of the number of players you've caused to leave the server, either temporarily or permanently?
I imagine with egos like yours, the number could easily match your postcounts.
I've seen a number of players become discouraged and take breaks, some to never be seen again. They don't necessarily post about it and I wouldn't expect them to. They're not the kind of people who leave goodbye messages. They find they're not having fun anymore and simply don't join the server when gametime rolls around.
You want everyone to follow your RP and gameplay "rules" right?
Tell me, how many new players do you accept into your factions and introduce to roleplay each week?
Now, I will not conform to your rules on how my characters should act. In the same way I don't expect you to conform to mine.
If I have a character in charge of a multimillion credit battleship, he's not going to throw it away needlessly. He'll follow all the rules history has taught about military tactics. He'll fall back and regroup with a stronger force if available, go inside a planetary defensive screen until reinforcements arrive, or whatever it takes to defend his base.
If these actions are considered dishonorable by my faction leader, it's easy enough to kick me out of the faction.
On attack, my characters won't cruise around the system in a petty attempt to annoy the defenders.
They'll execute their attack and then withdraw to a neutral or friendly position once the objectives are complete or they are defeated. It may or may not require the use of cruise to reposition.
If their ship is lost, they'll be out of the fight for a while.
I don't begrudge anyone the use of cruise to regroup or escape...in fact there is only a very small minority of players who don't use cruise.
Remember that in shield running, the shields of both sides regenerate. Nothing wrong with using cruise disruptors in an attempt to prevent escape though, is there?
I wouldn't expect fighters or bombers to behave in the same way when destroyed. They're cheap and easily replaced.
Well, enough ranting, although it needed to be said.
I'll be trying another server until further notice, in the hope of finding more tolerant and fewer PvP focused players.
