Ok, I haven't read the full 50 pages of the previous thread, but I did read some and I've read the whole of this one.
This thread seems to be mostly about capships now and here's my opinion of what I've read:
Battleships should be hard to come by, so beefing their weapons and armour as well as their prices isn't a bad idea. But at the same time this would unbalance the game in the way LumpLorry describes. I say it's worth a try though, perhaps change the reputation requirements for buying them (I don't know what the requirements are since I'm almost exclusively into trading).
Here's a few changes I propose:
Change the infocards with formulations that cannot be misinterpreted according to the newly debated pvp rules.
Beef up the NPCs in the vanilla systems - That would force players to band together when doing things. Which in turn promotes RP
Populate the Ontario and Inverness systems, at least around the jumpholes, as it is now, they're just empty space (haven't checked out all the other new systems)
Lose the Star Wars ships as they kind of ruin the Freelancer-mood
I'll explain about the Star Wars ships. First of all, I'm a really big fan of Star Wars. Anything Star Wars is generally better than anything else (even a bad Star Wars movie is better than any mediocre sci-fi movie).
Anyways..:yahoo:
The Freelancer universe is definately something I like. This MOD is THE best I've played so far. Except for the Star Wars ships (and any other sci-fi ship really, but the SW-ships in particular). This MOD let's you fly (as far as I know) every ship in the original game, that should be enough. UNLESS some nice person makes an original model that is based on the original FL-ships. I'll give you an example from another MOD: the Starlifter of the Asgard RPG MOD. It's a freighter based on the Starflier. I know that you'd need permission from the person who made the model to use them and that whoever made that ship might want it to be exclusive to that MOD. But you get the idea. If it's in the original game and you expand that content, that's really nice. Taking content from other games/series/movies is not so nice.
Originality is the way to go.
About the NPCs: First of all, this would help making it harder getting large ships (such as Battleships) and it will also prevent players from speed levelling new characters or changing their rep back and forth. Also, most players, will have played the single player game before joining any MODded server, I know most players I know did anyways. So if they meet beefed up NPCs there's still challenge in the game.
