Drake stepped off of the first landing craft to reach the surface of what they now called, Planet Manhattan in the New York system. This is it, it had better be worth all weve been through. Drake looked over his shoulder and saw John Kyle and what looked like a platoon of infantry. He looked up into the blue sky and watched as a swarm of landing craft descended. He gazed out to the east and caught in his eyes a bright blue ocean, dotted with tall islands, many mountains stood in the west.
Drake could see snow glazing the tops of the fifteen thousand foot mountains his eyes were locked up. Birds chirped happily gliding through the air, the sun of Manhattan was very much like Earths, only younger and brighter. It almost looked healthier in some regard. Hey Drake you wanna help us get this gear off the craft! John Kyle shouted, he was lifting a heavy crate that looked packed with ammunition.
Oh, yeah sorry. Drake dashed to the landing craft and picked a crate out of the craft. Ugh. Drake grunted, the crate was lighter than he expected it, lighter than he remembered it. He tried to jump in the air and found himself leaving the ground with ease, the gravity was somewhat lighter here than on Earth.
Hey Drake, playing hopscotch? John teased; he set the crate down on a nearby rock and moved to get another one.
The colonization went on for the longest time, after nearly a millennium the colonies were alive.
Eight hundred years later (approximately)
Drake Thastus, no different than he was hundreds of years ago. He stood in the Liberty Navy headquarters, it was located on the northern continent and surrounded by tall skyscrapers and grassy plains on the areas of the planet that werent populated. Hed been called here to receive command of his own ship. It was something hed been waiting for, for a long time, to command a crew and lead them into battle.
The only problem was, his mission, crew, and ship were classified and there was no war to fight. Drake had been serving in the Navy for the last five hundred years and no one had ever heard of him. Hed saved countless lives and taken many more, fighting in some skirmishes and defeating terrorists. I wonder what ship Im getting? They said I might get the Osiris; damn Id love to get something that cloaks. Or I could get stuck with that ragna whatever the hell it is. Who the hell cares about prototype shields
Drakes thoughts were interrupted by the loud voice of the Vice Admiral of the Liberty Navy. Drake Thastus, welcome to the Liberty Navy headquarters! You know why youre here so lets get down to business. You have been assigned command of the LNS Ragnarok. It is a prototype battleship known as the spyglass. It is designed for heavy recon into enemy territory and sports a shield generator.
Drakes heart sank, hed been hoping for command of the Osiris but now he was stuck with some scout ship. Vice Admiral, sir, with all due respect I asked for command of the OsirisI mean Ive been serving for nearly a thousand years in your Navy surely I should be able to get whatever ship I want.
The Vice Admiral, was a short man with blonde hair and hazel eyes. He wore the typical blue dress uniform with medals. A mustache sat upon his face and small goatee was anchored to his chin. He stroked the mustache deep in thought, Drake, I know youve been serving for a long timeBut the Osiris just isnt ready for command it still needs fine tuning. Believe me Drake I would give you that ship if I could. But some higher up in the brass are afraid of you.
Afraid of me!? Drake lost control of his mouth, but quickly regained it. ISir, why would people be afraid of me?
Some believe youre too powerful, being well what you are and what your friends areSuper soldiers. The Vice Admiral paused, I know like a few others that you are no threat to Liberty or anyone and that you would die for us. But others, the more paranoid fear the power that was given to you.
Drake sighed, he was content now to take the Ragnarok, hed seen the designs of it before and it looked straightforward. I understand sir; I suppose I should be thankful for getting the Ragnarok.
The Vice Admiral motioned for Drake to follow him; he led Drake down a hallway to what looked like a hangar. This transport ship is gonna take you to the Alaska system, the Ragnarok will be at a top secret shipyard.
Weeks later, Drake stood aboard the LNS Ragnarok glaring out into the darkness of the Connecticut system. Hed been sent there to conduct war games against a Liberty battle group. Alright, arm holographic weapons. Raise shields! Drake barked, his men scurried into action together each manning their stations. Take us about, to heading 7d cruise speed.
The Ragnarok, a long slender ship a large tri engine system connected to the main body of ship by a long almost rod like body. The front of the Ragnarok was a half bowl shape with Liberty Stripes on it. Drake could see four liberty cruisers and two dreadnoughts waiting for him at thirty kilometers ahead. Target the first cruiser and send a pair of mortars at them, I want all of our laser turrets focusing on the LNS George Washington.
Aye sir. The young Marcus Williams answered; he had a decent build and brown hair and brown eyes. Hed just been promoted to tactical officer of the Ragnarok; Drake thought he was capable pilot and amazing gunner the best Drake had seen in a while.
Lets try to give them chance guys, let em live at least thirty seconds. Drake said cockily.
Marcus chuckled under his breath, he studied the screen on the console before him a pair of crosshairs lined up on the liberty cruiser and he fired his mortars at the cruiser. His screen lit up saying, confirmed kill. The holographic rounds took out the allotted structural integrity, Marcus directed the laser turrets on the first Liberty dreadnought. He watched a red meter that displayed how much more the enemy dreadnought could take. It was dropping quickly and viciously.
Needless to say the war game didnt last long and Drake defeated the other Liberty Navy group with little trouble. You see Marcus? That was easy. Drake said confidently.
