So my computer is rather old. I want to put new RAM in, but I do not know what I should get.

I have 2 x 256mb CL3 400hz. It's DDR2

If I wanted to get 2 x 1gb, does the clock latency and frequency have to be the same?
I know to get DDR2, since my board obviously isn't DDR3, but CL3/400hz is rather old and antiquated and hard to acquire. Let me know if anymore information is required to solve this conundrum.
