Gallia and your knowledge of the French

By the way, what is with all these jokes about France? Seriously, I never understood why Americans mock the French.

Because many of us are ignorant.

Many think the french surrendered for no good reason in WW II. They dont realize the french didnt want to have there beautiful historical country shelled to **** and their citizens killed in a fight they would never win because they french forces were so depleted after WW I. Also a decent amount of the french population supported this action, for these reasons, and because they were socialist I believe (also some of them cause they wanted to keep their money prolly, not sure on this though). Some also fail to remember that the french resistance was instrumental in turning the tide of the war in France.

Also, we dont like how they dont bow to us like a lot of other countries. They disagree in the UN (take Iraq for example) and they are just this little country who surrendered in world war two, who are they to... well, i think you get where that line of "thought" is going.

Finally, we dont understand why they are all snotty to us when we go there. Like when we refuse ti try an speak their language or make fun of it, or use it in a mocking tone. When we dont try and learn about their history and culture and demand things be done the american way (salad first, everything a la carte, for example). We dont understand why they are snotty when we are effectively pissing all over everything they care about and hold dear....

Basically it seems like because the French are openly proud, and a lot of Americans are proud and ignorant.

So yeah. I think that is why.
