God. YES. PLEASE.

Armor Plating is a huge waste of time and money. Its essentially a required grind. Everyone has it because the benefit of equipping it is so great, so any new character you create essentially has to have it to be competitive (we're speaking purely about PvP of course here).

I am fully in favor of removing Armor Plating COMPLETELY. All ships should be balanced properly around their base armor value ANYWAY. And because plating is multiplicative and not additive it gives more benefit to more heavily armored ships which makes balancing even more difficult. Additionally, plating simply draws combat out unnecessarily.
