I'm actually a proponent of bigger piracy fees. I know it goes both ways, and if I got stopped half way through my run and got my whole shipment jacked by a couple of guys when I got shot out of a lane, I'd be sad. But if I was cruising through jumpholes and walked right in to a trap that had been set specifically for me, I'd feel a lot better about handing my goods over.
But yeah, piracy isn't a good way to make money. Maybe it should be?
I think this stuff would be easier if we had less zoners and more corps. I know my LWB would have no problem ignoring all non-synth traders, if there were actually a significant amount of synth foods traders around. A bunch of factions have 'enemies' like that. Gaians, Mollies, the FA, LWB, Unioners, Red Hessians and Lane Hackers were all essentially formed in opposition to a single corporation each. And all of these (with the possible exception of Gaians and Planetform and Unioners and Republican) are much, much larger than the corporations they are supposedly minority opposition to.
Hold on this post isn't really about piracy any more! The idea I'm trying to get across is a decrease in targets and an increase in profits. Ideally you'd hit your personal hated factions for full cargo or obscene money, and ignore everyone else. Ideally zoners wouldn't get pirated, but they basically have to be, because they represent a huge proportion of traders/the total volume of goods shipped.
