Aint going to accept you as Ghosts from an OORP perspective, Freelancer is based on relatively known science.
IE, Nomads are explained logically in the Lore.
Weapons etc are all non-magical and based on real science (Obviously some are silly but they are sciencey)

We don't have people coming back from the dead with magic.
It's through technology.
We don't have people with psychic powers.
It's through technology.
We don't have people who are actual ghosts.
It's through technology.

The last one there is a hint really.

Lose all the stuff about being actual ghosts etc and just do it from a technology point.
Your crew is insane, it's all a scare tactic, anything really.

Just avoid the 'WE ARE GHOSTS FROM THE AFTERLIFE'.
That messes with everyone's game, which is something that you will find isn't popular, at all.
