I don't necessarily agree. Since when were house systems heavily defended? Certainly not in vanilla, where pirate npcs inhabit all over the place. With the exception of gallia, trade lanes are not defended heavily. They would be patrolled occasionally, but they certainly are not defended enough to justify your point.

Bombers are just as a military craft as a gunboat, and can be potentially more dangerous to shipping and installations. Wouldn't it be a deathwish for them to pirate in house space as well? Considering the "well-trained fighter patrols" houses seem to magically patrolling every tradelane (in some people's minds)?

Your real-life example does not make much sense, considering tradelanes are not highways and we don't pirate people with cars or tanks.
