yes bombers would be usefull, however not to much since the idea is to retreat when the target is save, bombers maybe to big for that .

Sounds like a great idea mate, one question. Can a merc join or does it have to be a freelancer, and how tightly do the characters have to stay to the faction, for instance could a FSS merc decide one day to hunt down a couple of bounties or do they have to stick to escorting? (Ok 2 questions)

( surprisingly i found out that the do 's and dont's for freelancers are almost the same.)

but we all have freelancers ID. and as i recall from the rules we cant have two kinds of ID in one faction.

Hitting for boutys will affect your rep with certain group , and can cause that a pirate attacks the escorting group because one took a bounty on his buddy. in rp it will endanger the contacter and we want to prevent ( if possible) that the FSS will become a target itself.
so no we dont take bountys on pirates , or others.

however a FSS pilot can decide to take a escort job alone as long as it is a lawfull one.

also , seeing all the positive reactions , and seeing that a unoficial group has to limited rights to fit our rp , we go set up a faction proposal for this. since its a lot of work and since we want to have some experiance first , it will take some time. however we still need to decide if we try to go official. we will use this week to gain Freelance experiance
