The Jouney of RapidFire

A well dressed man sat in the corner of a bar. He was smoking a cigar as he kept his eye on the door. An easy feat in this bar today. It was normally full but there was a major job going and all of the Guns for Hire that normally graced the bar had gone to this job. The bartender sat cleaning glasses. The only other people in the bar were three men all of which were avoiding eye contact and trying to blend into the walls as much as possible.

A newcomer entered the bar, his long trench coat down to his knees. His eyes were green, the shone against the light even in this dimly lit bar. His young face was impassive. Hair cut short, something that was favoured among pilots. He held a briefcase in his hand. His eyes moved around the room slowly taking his surroundings. Once he was comfortable he walked into the bar and headed straight for the man who was partially covered in the shadow of the bar. He sat down in the chair on the opposite side of the table his face still impassive.

The man in the shadows spoke up, Ah I guess you must have the merchandise I ordered RapidFire? As you know it would have been suicide to return here without it. He leaned forward slightly so the snide grin on his face could be seen.

The young man smiled slightly You always have an air of the theatrics around you Jones, yes I have the merchandise now about my pay... His face changed slightly, the smile gone. His eyes now darted around and he saw the other three men who had been in the bar previously had moved to block off the entrance. Ah, let me guess you intend to pay me by allowing me to live? Or is it one of those where it is too risky to allow me to survive. Come now Jones. Did you expect someone like me not to come prepared for such an eventuality?

Two of the men standing at the door began to move forward drawing pistols from underneath their jackets. Your second answer was the correct one, you see this is why I used a freelancer such as yourself. No one cares when they die.

RapidFire smiled even further, Interesting I did not know that this was part of our deal... I guess I will have to switch to my secondary arrangement. He stood up and pulled out an old revolver type weapon. He then proceeded to make a run for the door, nodding to the bartender as he dealt with the man guarding the door using the handle of his weapon.

RapidFire ran through the corridors of the nearly deserted base. Dam nit, never do jobs for people who ask you to meet in a blasted Junker base. It is NEVER what it is meant to be. At least the stuff you acquired for him was off of an old wreck. From now on I am doing jobs for the ruddy good side of the law. He ducked as a shot was fired at him, Where the hell is that docking bay? He approached the docking bays, he found his ship on the pad.

The old ship looked like something a xeno would fly. He had it hand built several years ago at a small outpost on the outskirts of Liberty. It was a Crow class ship, however it was no longer in the pristine condition of what it was when he had purchased it. Parts of the hull had been patched at one base or another. The power core was several old power cores he had been able to buy at a scrap yard stitched together.

He opened the canopy of his ship and jumped in. Lets hope you are on one of your good days today old gal. Dont fail me now. There was a high pitched whirring noise as the power came online and the ship started up the engines. The engines were constantly thrumming as they warmed up. He pushed the button to open the docking bay and the inner door was sealed to the docking port. There was the sound of air rushing out of the bay as the doors opened. RapidFire grasped the throttle and flew off into the night. The ship groaned as it went to cruise.

After flying into another asteroid field he took the merchandise and ejected it out of the cargo bay. He then destroyed it with his guns. Now no one is getting hold of that bit of kit, if it is dangerous enough to kill for I wont even trust myself with it. He then went to do something he had rarely ever done before he checked the local job board for the house he was in.
