It wasn't larger than Sydney, though it didn't wear a shell. It screamed, and jumped, and collided with Sydney. It grabbed at Sydney, and tossed her. It slammed Sydney into a wall, and held her there. This, finally, did not look like a game. It was hurting Sydney.

It shuddered, and then punched Sydney in the gut. Growled something. Sydney whimpered.
***Bad! Stop!***
It shook Sydney, and growled again. Mourning didn't understand its growls. She slid across the floor, toward it.
***NO! SydneyGood!***
It glanced around, now, looking at Mourning. It jumped, it was afraid. Then it kicked at her. Sydney grabbed at it, and it slapped her. Mourning grabbed its foot, and pulled herself up its legs, setting spines into its soft flesh.
***Bad, BACK, down, QUIET, SydneyMourningWe, BiteBurnusweno!***
Mourning felt it, felt its entire form, not just where she was touching it. She felt, and understood, where all of its bits were. And then she squeezed.


The Kusari soldier released Sydney, then stumbled, yawled, and collapsed, twiching. Blood pooled in his eyes and nose.
