i do like the design and the idea of a tombship - in a way. - for one, - its OK for a tomb to be simplistic... however, it could show a bit more sublte "riches" - after all, having a tomb mostly serves just one single purpose..... to show off even when you re dead. ( well, and to preserve the memory of course.... )
however - there is a slight little problem about "dead" people. - hardly anyone really RPs to die. - it does happen, very very rarely. ( when a player wants to get rid of a char the RP way - or when its part of a major event )
most pilots just always escape in their pods - not even harmed ( judging from the insults they often throw at their opponents while they re still "floating in space" )
so - the idea of a tombship is a bit problematic... just like attempts to RP prison liners with hundreds of prisoners.... research ships containing alien samples etc.
you depend less on how YOU roleplay - and more how people LET you roleplay your part. - and if no one is RPing their part - whats left is a ship that is either used to fight or to trade, the two basic pillars in freelancer. ( the third pillar - piracy - is out of question there, unless you "create your own habitants" )
in RP - the appearence of a tombship could be something like the appearence of vultures or a ghost ship. - something you wish not to see but you don t really fight.
for those that watched "babylon 5" - there is a race of soulcollectors - who appear at "significant" times / locations to entrap the souls of those that are destined to die - to preserve them. - a neat little concept in theory ... creepy in a TV show.... but does it work in the simplistic freelancer, too?
