Soooo essentially the opposite of the Phantoms? Their arch enemies really?

Not a bad plan. I mean, the Phantoms RP is currently accepted so anything based pretty tightly on that has to be accepted, otherwise the Phantoms void their own RP too.

Ship wise. I would simply suggest that you use a human ship.
Why?
Well think of it this way, you can roleplay as having sensor dampening equipment, so the aliens on your ship can't be identified as such etc.
It both solves that issue and also creates a thing of only having to show yourself to those you want to. Nomads etc would know though, due to their telepathy etc.

I would suggest going for a Special RP request for the ID and IFF.
