Ganking - when and what is it?

Ganking is generally when unnecessary force is applied to a person's opposition. It is very hard to distinguish from just whining and most of the time, whining is mostly what occurs. To provide an example of a gank is a very difficult task, as it mostly depends on the skill of the players.

But, in some games, "ganking" does not occur. Take for example Guild Wars, where I have killed people in less than two seconds alone and continued to do so to the remainder of a team. I have never been called a ganker. I have done this on almost all my Guild Wars characters, and of the plethora of names I have been called, not once has "ganker" been used, and I really do use unnecessary force on people in that game. In fact, by the definition of the word, I am always a ganker, as my skill level is much higher than that of my average enemy. However, I have never been labeled as such. What does this tell me?

"Ganking" is just another one of those internet fads. To label it as something that actually exists is just silly.
