Your opinion on activity...

So I've been thinking lately... (btw, I have been told that my logic fails, but oh well. Meh. I feel I should post this)

People have often been complaining about Capwhores, pvpwhores, powertraders, etc. What I don't get is why you complain...

In my opinion, the number one rule of discovery is fun, and its no fun to be alone. Fun is alot better than RP, sittting around doing nothing, with no-one around you. Activity is what we need in most places. We can RP with each other sure, but eventually, we will get bored.

maybe I'm wording this a little strangely... talking about fun but not getting to my point...

So lets say you have new york. In my opinion, there are alot of people there who are decent people, however, people complain that they are too many lolwutters and too many capwhores, but in the end, isn't a NY full of capwhores and lolwutters better than an empty NY?

And before I continue, I would like to state my following belief: LIBERTY IS A SUCCESS!

Why? What does liberty have? Capwhores, powertraders, pirates, lawfuls, libbyswarms, bomberswams, daily raids from battleships to bombers to light fighters... some of the best RP you'll find in Disco... And they have people who help the noobs, capwhores, etc...

Now let me put in an experimental house... just for the fun. ill call it australia, because I love australia.

Lets next put in some powertraders. Lets say theres this super-awesome trade route out in australia from australia to gallia. Pretty OORP, but meh. Who cares. Its about the profit.

So lets also say that Australia has some pretty dangerous pirates around... with big fat weapons and even more awesome ships. Then, pirate activity rises and we get pirate capwhores in battleships/cruisers. Wow wee isn't this fun.

Now we put in some super-awesome battlecruiser. We get a kangaroo class battlecruiser with 15 cruiser turrets and one battleship turret. It gets battleship shields, it looks completley awesome and absolutley wtfpwns evey other smaller ship. Pirate capships and the lawful capships are continuously slaughtering each other.

now we have bombers and capwhores. Both sides start using their bomber. The bombers start slaughtering both capships. The capship pilots go to the forums and complain about the bombers. Be aware that most of the bomber pilots are now proper RPers who are sick of the goddamn capships. This is how we should be dealing with capships, with bombers. Not with flaming each other about too many capships, etc. 2 bombers can easily take down a capship. One bomber if the capship is really bad...

So more RPers in bombers take to Australia and start killing the capships. Right now its a PVPwhoring world. Barely any RP. But be patient, Australia needs time to grow.

So next what happens is that RP begins to form. Experienced players start using capships and people start following their example. More people come and the Rpers RP with each other, setting a great example for everyone. While this is going on - people start using Light Fighters to combat the bombers. VHFs are used to combat the LFs, etc etc. Australia becomes an active places of Capships, Fighters, Bombers, Transports, mini-freighters and PVP + RP.

Then some new guy hears about discovery, and decides to give it a shot. He goes to australia, sees the awesome RP, awesome fights, awesome ships, and decides he wants to stay and play this awesome game. He stays awhile, helps develop the game and makes the game grow helping everybody else. Discovery grows. The new guy might even donate money to help discovery grow.


Of course, this entire thing is hypothetical and would never happen this way, but the point I'm trying to get across, just leave everyone alone.

Don't list:

Don't complain about zoner powertraders, no matter what they say about zoner neutrality.

Don't complain about capwhores and bomberwhores, just let the two fight each other.

Don't complain about people who can't RP, teach them instead. If they arn't willing to learn, they will either learn eventually or they will leave the server, over time.

Don't complain about overpowered ships unless they really are overpowered and evidence is there to back that up.

Don't complain about underpowered ships unless they really are underpowered, and evidence is there to back that up.

Don't bash me for my opinion.

Do list:

Make more capships. Especially for places without much activity.. (KUSARI *AHEM* KUSARI* not enough capspam...)

Sanction people who ruin the server. But never be too harsh on them... Let everyone enjoy discovery!


But of course, this is all my opinion only. I believe if we stop all this crap about complaining and rule lawyering, all this crap with the extra-harsh rules... (I still think that the no-piracy while grouped with a battleship... the battleship could be half way across sirius!)

What was the real point of this thread - to see your opinion!

Would you prefer,

a happy disco with RPers and lolwuts?

A serious disco with pure RPers, no capwhores and (for some people) not so much fun? (basically, almost turning off combat...)
