I agree whole heartedly. I've been very much interested in the whole Corsair and Outcast thing for a long time now. I went so far as to build up OC and Corsair chars and RP'ng with both factions . In fact I mostly RP there . I rarely venture into the main house systems. Whats interesting is the story that the Corsairs and the Zoners had an accord of sorts that helped the Zoners gain neutrality and make some trade agreements with the Corsair people. Crete itself seems to be a fairly barren place and the Corsair people generally have a hard time feeding their families and so on , making these agreements crucial for the survival of the Corsair people. As a result of these hardships many Corsairs have in the past also practised the somewhat gruesome act of cannibalism to ensure their survival but ultimately cementing their reputation as a hated and at the same time feared nation of pirates. To be true Corsairs can sometimes appear gruff and uncivilised and I do believe many of these stories to hold some truth. One thing I can say from my own experience is that I have yet to find another faction that offers the level of cameraderie or brotherhood that the Corsairs does. I've never entered battle and had to face my enemies alone and I've never had to go on raiding missions alone. Ther brotherhood is always at hand to assist and defend.
The Outcasts on the other hand found Malta . And while not much better in the way of fertility it does offer one unique resource that makes the Outcast nation a mighty one. Cardimine. They consider themselves a proud people and a nation with the ability to rule all of Sirius. They also see cardamine as the key to their supremety as they control the only source of the orange stuff in the whole of Sirius.
All these things combined makes for some lessons about the feud I think. On the one hand we have the Corsairs who rose up and became a nation to be feared and spread out over Sirius like a plague , infesting many of the systems and setting up bases that allow them to control many of the more profitable trade routes. The also have the ability to strike deep into most territories fast and deadly . They also ally with the Order whose technical prowess is well known in Sirius. Their accord of neutrality with the Zoners also allows them open trade and access to resources that has allowed the cannibalism thing to be more a myth and a tool to scare others. In short , they are independant and powerfull enough to not be ruled or manipulated buy any other nation or faction.
On the other hand we have the Outcasts who allies with no one really , believes they can rule all in Sirius and has the right to. Their neutrality with other Pirate factions like the Gallic brigands is more a we wont bother you if you dont bother us agreement and that mostly includes the Hackers and the Hessians too. They are also one of the few nations who still employ slavery .
I would dearly like to learn more about the hsitory between these two nations who are ,after all ,cut from the same cloth . They arrived in Sirius on the same boat for crying out loud. The only thing that points me to a possible answer is perhaps some sort of an ancient family feud. The Corsair Benitez family and the OPG faction are the eldest known family structures in the Corsair nation. On the Outcast side I'd have to investigate further and who knows what I'll find . Perhaps way back when , before war forced these Hispanic people to flee Earth there was a feud between two families that never eally died and still rages on 800 years later. It would be interesting see more opinions on this matter. All interested should really post here and get the discussion going. Any info could help develop this story into some real history.
What do you guys think?
