The mod is great. We have spent countless hours to make the ships and weapons comparable to each other, so it's challenging and fun to fly them and fight with them. So if something doesn't work, it's 99% your fault. Or blame Zelot instead.
You do raise a few valid points, yes. The solution is already being worked on. (details are classified)
But even now, comparing to previous versions, I'd say the overall chances in fleet battles are great, and there's always a counter against some tactic. Just have to find it.
It's much like trade routes. Most people do shortened point-to-point ones, with a third stop somewhere, when there's awesome circular routes that are more fun, harder to get pirated on, and earning more cash. All fitting your preferred ID.
It applies to every last person, however, that there's always something you didn't know about in Freelancer. Including myself.
