“That is all I can remember, miss.” Edel whispered. “No, that's great Edel! I could never remember things from my childhood in that level of detail.” the woman's voice explained calmly from the darkness. “Your turn, Gustaz.” “Okey. Here goes nuthin'.”

Tale II

I have a great story, freunds. I will tell it as it happened. No lies, no spiels, no witze. Some people think der Werewolf is a fairy tale, a legend, a lie. I can understand why they think that, but I will tell you what I know.

I am Gustav Lukas, and dis is whut I've seen...

It was a lonely trip. My three man crew, me being one of dem, had just picked up a small shipment of goods from a Daumann base and were going to bring them out to the Cardiff Mining Facility in Cambridge. Of course, we had no idea what the goods are, but we needed the money at the time.

Because we operate a small cargo train ship, we make sure all of the containers are attached properly and secured. During our preflight check, my mechanic, Jacob Haen, noticed something peculiar with one of the cargo containers, or pods as we call them. It was giving off small amounts of radiation. After doing some figuring, we decided it was not a problem. We decided to kill two birds with one stone by going through the Omegas to get to Cambridge. That way, we could avoid being exposed to the radiation for too long and make the best possible time to Cardiff.

Of course we knew the Omegas can be a risky place, but we chose to ignore that risk. It was a poor choice.

“Gustav!” my navigator, Matthias Kalm, called out. “I just picked up some Hessian ships. They're chasing us down, herr!”

“Damnit! Jacob, see what you can do wit' de engines. Make dem go faster!” I activated the the counter measure system, but it was too late. A lucky cruise disruptor missile managed to narrowly miss a few of the smaller asteroids and hit the engines. The ship came to a dead stop.

“Damn I just lost power to de engines, Gustav. Der's nothing we can do...” Jacob replied sadly.

There must have been at least four Hessian ships. They all fired on one of the pods, causing one of them to explode. We were worried about the cargo, but we were more worried about our own lives. I've heard some terrible things in de' past that they do to people they catch. We knew we were in for a terrible time.

“Herr, we're losing power to the ship now!” Jacob said as he ran around the cockpit, trying to keep the ship from shutting down.“Take everythin' in for the life support, living is the important thing 'ere, not de cargo!” “On it, Gustav!” Jacob ran to his console and began typing in some commands.

The ship rumbled and its hull buckled as it took even more weapons fire from the Hessian ships. The light in the room went to red, indicating we were on emergency power. Just as that happened the sounds stopped. I thought we had died.

I turned around and looked at Matthias. “Wh... What the hell is going on?” Matthias had blood running down the side of his head, but he was still looking on at the nav. Computer. “Looks like another ship just came in, herr. Looks like die Hessians are retreating!” I was shocked.

“Dat ain't possible! Do our cameras still work?” “One second, herr.” Jason exclaimed. A camera feed popped up on the main view screen and revealed a darkened ship tractoring in some of the goods we had lost.

“Whut in the...” Matthias said aloud. “Whut is dat?” The ship did a quick turn and passed us, disappearing into the asteroid field.

“Whoa!” Jason said. “That radioactive pod is gone! That ship just helped us out... I think.” “Gud, we better get out of here den. Matthias, plot a course back to the Daumann base. We're going to need repairs and some drinks!” “Aye aye, herr!”
