Personally I like this idea and don't know why it isn't in the heart of most server mods. It gives that extra foot of depth to the game. Something more to do, something more to see. Bobbing from planet to planet, system to system, nebulae to nebulae in itself gets boring after a while. Having to navigate the planet atmosphere after a long trip is a really nice breakup of the scenery.
And the idea mentioned very early in this thread is outstanding. Having multiple places to land on the surface for different civilian corporations, navy, police, pirate hangouts, mercenary hubs, ect. It's a great idea. You could even include specialized ship dealers or commodity depots. Wouldn't it be nice to have more than a 3 ship choice at any given planet? Another key to this is it might stop people from hanging out in front of a planet so heavily which in itself causes lag from so many players interacting and updating each other over the net. As for gravity and things floating, you just have to get over that. If you are going to be so narrow minded about that than stop playing if you are hating on this idea because when loot is dropped it flies out with no damage like lightening sometimes and has no inertia floating away. So stop complaining, there is nothing that can be done. Don't stand in the way of -progress-
I would seriously like to see planetary action. It would be off the charts awesome and with different places to land, more depth in the game. You say this server might only run for another two years, well damn. That's not that long of a time. It'd be cool to see atmospheric fun before one of the best mod communities goes.
