"Seldon, Seldon, Seldon," muttered a wiry man with a Bretonian accent, "Where for art thou?"

He stood up, and walked into the Liberty Tower. The tower, at the heart of Manhattan, was built using the original body of the Sleeper Ship Liberty. Within it lay the people, machines, and decision making authorities that was Liberty itself. And deeper within, it was the Liberty Department of Defense.

"Everyone..." muttered Conrad, "Everyone..."

"Yes sir," said a young officer gravely.

"This is," he paused, "was inhuman. I refuse to believe."

The young officer stared at Conrad sternly. He should have chosen kitchen duty instead. The old man was impossible to sway.

"It is humanly impossible," said Conrad sternly.

"Sir," insisted the young officer, "It happened. No traces, nothing except knife wounds at the neck. No blood either. Just...a cut into the jugular."

"No chemicals?" asked Conrad, "No one saw who it was?"

In all the years of Walter Conrad's life as Secretary of Defense, he had never seen anything like this.

"No sir," replied the young officer.

Every single secretary and non-priority employee in the Liberty Tower dead, 54 people killed at close range with a knife. Luckily, it was a sunday.

Conrad regained his infathomable sense and profundity that made him Secretary of Defense. He smiled at the young officer.

"Run along now," he said, "At least, no one of importance was killed."
