The Buccaneers Bay

[Capt. Henry Morgan]

The Leviathan was comfortably back in Leeds now. Captain Morgan decided to take a risk, and fly into New London in hopes of catching some of the resupply convoys coming out of Southampton Shipyard. Fortunately, the risks paid off brilliantly. The managed to pull a Bowex Shetland-class train, the BES Bramall, out of the trade lane shortly after getting in position. The Bramall was carrying goods to resupply the HMS Derby on the front lines in Leeds. The Captain of the Bramall tried to appeal to Morgan's sense of patriotism, apparently not aware of Morgan's deficiency in that area. After a short fight, the Bramall was dust, and what goods it had were scattered all over space. The Leviathan scooped up all the goods, and ran for the Jump Hole before the BAF could figure out what happened. Now that they were back in Leeds, it was time to go down to the cargo holds and see what they got.

As soon as Morgan walked into the cargo hold, the young former BAF officer he put in charge of Engineering walked up to him. Morgan rather liked this one, and had gotten to know her quite well since she came aboard. She started talking as soon as she got to the Captain.

"Captain, most of the goods we picked up are just simple things like computer components, power cabling, plubming, and the like... nothing of immediate use, though I'd like to keep a few back in case we need them. That fault in the communications system would've been easier to resolve with some spares. We can sell the rest, though. Unfortunately, the weapon components they were carrying got lost in the explosion.."

"Dammit... so you're tellin' me that our trip to New London was't worth the risk?"

At that, the young lady smiled. Morgan's heart (and other organs) leaped for a moment, but he reminded himself to get business taken care of first... there'd be time for pleasure later.

"Not at all, Captain. In fact, we got quite the prize off of it. Come over here."

Morgan followed her to the other end of the cargo bay. There, he saw a very large crate, opened on one side. Inside was a large component that Morgan didn't recongnize. A couple engineers were examining it for damage. Morgan didn't see any, but he wasn't an engineer, either.

"There it is, Captain. Easily the greatest prize we've picked up in quite a while."

"Really? What is it, then?"

"Captain, that is a complete scanner unit for a Dunkirk-class Battleship. Apparently, it was bound for one of the Battleships on the Leeds front. It seems to be undamaged, since the crate is designed to protect the scanner against any damage. Assuming that the scanner is as undamaged as it appears, we're going to replace the Leviathan's scanner with it."

"Is it that much better?"

"Aye, it is, sir. We can detect threats from much farther off, allowing us more time to get away. In fact, it's scan range is so much farther that we could slip away from any detected threats without them ever knowing we were there in the first place."

"Hmm... I like the sound of that. Get it fitted as soon as you can. Then, come see me in my quarters when you're done. You can tell me more about it in person..."

"I look forward to it, sir. Now, I've got to get back to work if we expect to get anything done. I'll see you later, Captain."

With that, Captain Morgan exited the cargo hold, and went up to the Bay for a drink. Oh yes, today was definitely a good day.
