Mouse Sensitivity

This has been bothering me for quite some time. I'm not sure how to set my mouse sensitivity in a way that will allow me to get the most out of a fight (fighter and/or bomber scenario). Can you please advise?

My current settings are:
(1000 dpi USB mouse)
Windows settings -> Cursor Speed: approx. 44%
Freelancer: approx 50%

I must tell you, however, than my sharpshooting abilities aren't godlike.
