Admin Notice: Ship purchase restrictions

He role-plays himself into another ship.
/cue fancy story here.
Let us, for this example, - whether it's sensible or not doesn't matter, it is just an example - assume said ship is...
An Odin.

Let us also assume the player had filed a Special Request.
And let us assume as well that said request got approved.

Now said player has to do this:

Make a new character / ship.
/restart Rheinland command would obviously help, still.
He then has to grind missions in that ships until he can acquire a Red Hessian ID.
That he does.
Now he can buy the aforementioned Odin.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, now he can do the following:

Work on his repsheet again and grind MORE to get his Outcast ID back.
Work on his navmap because he pretty much lost anything he had with the old ship as he can-not transfer it over to the new one.
Work on... hell, map and repsheet is good enough, just think of all the unnecessarily-wasted time.

The alternative to the above that doesn't involve creating a new ship is to butcher one's repsheet. Which involves grinding missions, usually.

And what an excellent way to promote individuality.

But an a more serious note...
Say what's next? The same for... guns?
Or how about we make the generic IDs like Mercenary and Pirate Special Request-only?
How about we kill everything that isn't really factionized and forget individuality right away, and instead stick to the cliches and stereotypes attached to our present faction IDs, hm?

You see, the thing is, making that stuff there work for [color=#FFFFFF]white cells...
Well, the procedure above, think of every Pirate, Mercenary, Freelancer who, thanks to the still rather 'new' ID and equipment-usage system, makes a deal with a faction fooor... a different ship.

Should every single person who does so have to waste way too much time on doing what I gave you an example of above?

I mean, before 'this', it was: Do the writing, get your approval, fly to the base, dock, buy your ship, y'know.

So what does this measure, for the white cells, actually prevent here?
A handful of people from flying ships they shouldn't fly?
Didn't we have this most wonderful sanction system for that, actually?

I don't mean to say this 'thing' is bad in its entirety, preventing Dude McI-Got-No-Idea-And-I-Just-Want-Lulz from buying an Assault Carrier with a regular Navy ID is grand, even the parts for the red cells, that I can understand.

But for white cells?

Why'd you introduce this whole 'Ask the governing faction for it.'-system thing for those in the first place, when you just nearly cut half of the stuff it was made for?

I mean, the 'asking-thingy', it PROMOTED Role-Play, granted, the part about making deals and so on on the forums, it also increased paperwork load for faction leaders, but only by a miniscule amount.

But this?

One doesn't have to ask a faction if he or she wants an 'off-the-norm' ship now alone and make a deal, oh no.
One also has to spend hours with boring and completely unnecessary trash after.

You just made sure that a fair amount of people are going to have to do more boring grinding junk.
Instead of doing what?
Playing the game.
Role-playing in the game.
Having fun on Discovery.
That's what we're supposed to do, as players, right?
Play the game, role-play, have fun, right?
Not grind and grind and grind this or that like ye olde powertraders grinded money via Diamond-Niobium through Sigma-13 in .84, correct?

So now be so kind, oh mighty top brass, and tell me...

Why did you introduce this junk for white cells?

So you have less sanction reports coming in?

So your own life is easier and the workload lighter?

Isn't it your job to make the life of the players easier?

Plenty of Pirate ID'd ships around. As Mercenary ones. As Freelancer ones.

Picture half of those, an unlikely but not impossible scenario, suddenly wanting a different ship from the Civilian and Borderworld lines.

Picture half of that half getting their approval.

Picture how many people you just made spend countless hours with boring, dull, frustrating grinding.

Good job.

This would be actually all nice if it stopped people from doing the stuff that is really infuriationg for some.

Like someone grinding his way up into a Liberty Dreadnought, with the correct ID, kitting it out with 10 Solaris Turrets and then barging in with it into even and 'fun' - for the participants - fighter clusterfights, only to collect blue messages with an almighty big ship.

But it doesn't.

So it's trash for the white cells.
