Roleplay. Almost all of my pirate characters will have some certain group they will force to drop all their cargo and/or pay an extortionate fine in order to live. And if an Outcast catches my Cryer trader, I'm expecting the same treatment.

The problem is, as you say, pushing people away from corporate trading. But rather than going soft on people because they're carrying the torch of corp business, you should be brutal, but they need to have the chance to be brutal back.
My dear Cryer for example, have a pretty sweet deal with the cardamine-demanding thing. Outcasts can hit us hard, but we can hit back just as hard. It's a shame it isn't this way for all the corporations.
Being ruthlessly pirated because you're synth foods can make you sad. I guess having someone go easy on you might be a little better. But I know that if I was Synth Foods, the thing that would get me logging in is the opportunity to crush the feeble rebels trying to resist the irrepressible spread of my corporate empire.
Conflict causes activity. One-sided conflict makes people frustrated and stop playing. But if the corps got an even hand, I think activity would boost a lot for them. I know my Cryer boys are more interested (gameplay-wise) in the cardamine-jacking part of cryer than the trading part. Both are legitimate facets of Cryer Pharms RP and I think some other corporations need a little more fleshing out too.

So yeah uh basically, if it's all balanced, then get roleplay in over fairplay any day. also lol corp rant 200425
