@ buffing lvl 8 guns

from the comparsion of Gaian guns above you get that one big difference between them:

Efficiency

lvl 8: 4.69
lvl 9: 3.55

So 2 issues:

1. The lvl 8 efficiency can't really get to insane numbers (>>5.5 ), so if the damage is upped more than just a bit, then the energy use will have to go up some, and LFs don't really have a lot of energy

most importantly:
2. All other fighters can use lvl 8s as well
So if you buff them, those fighters also get better (most notably HFs) => even less reason to use LFs.
If the efficiency gets really good then it migh actually be worth to mount lvl 8s instead of lvl9 on VHFs on regular basis as well.

Being forced to use mines is a luck based proposition, and having ammo based damage isnt a good thing for when you run out.

Some would call it luck.. some skill. LFs have always been extremely skill based, don't see any need to change that. Though, "skill based" here means is not entirely correct, surving in LFs is rather easy, killing things in it is rather difficult.

Plus all LF's with 2 8's and 2 nines are faction/restricted in some way.

Griffin, Tigershark, Scimitar and Moonbeam are rather widely available. Not much different number from the amount of VHFs that are not restricted.
Other than that it's up to the modelers to come with new LF models.
