"Is he serious?"

outloud:

"Doris?"

"Yes Mr. Gideon"

"I need more information about Verginix and Supernova, who their contacts are, and why Verginix wants Nova to pay this thing off."

"I'll get right on it Mikey."

"Doris, don't call me that."

"Aww, ok"


next day

"Mr. Gideon, here's the information you requested."

"Thankyou."

Gideon unseals the package and reads the single sheet inside. After reading it 2 more times he stops and starts rubbing his temples the way his father always used to do.

"Doris, when is the next subspace dump?"

"In 30 minutes."

"Tell them to hold up, I have something to include."

Gideon types up a reply:

Mr. Verginix,

Thank you for your interest in Colonial Credit Union. We have reviewed your request for financing of 300 million credits and found your repayment plan unacceptible. Unfortunately CCU does not have the assets to buy bad debts from intrafaction lending, especially when the odds of repayment are so low. Given your good standing with organizations like the IMG, KNF, and RM we will remain open to counter proposals you may have that do not include repayment by third parties such as SuperNova.

We are still interested in doing business, so lets talk!
