Emptiness

After yet another mission to protect the interests of the almighty Council of Dons, she decided to call it a night early and retreated to her quarters. Tomorrow would be an important day.
The plan was in a way simple and not unusual, l except for the fact that they would be operating in the most hostile of systems: Omicron Gamma.

The covert fighter wing she was part of was to enter Gamma through Kappa and swiftly take out a couple of communication satellites that were supposedly lightly defended. They were to sneak in, unleash hell, and high-tail it out in less than an hour'€™s time.

As the fighter wing came out of the jump hole the entire area seemed to lit up. Before she knew it several of her wingmen were destroyed. It was, however, not to be that she would share the warm embrace of death with her fallen companions.

Her engines were destroyed and the last thing she remembered was being tractored into the huge Osiris; the mission had been compromised.

A year of captivity with the dreaded corsairs can easily break the strongest of men and left Carmen emotionally empty and in a state of apathy.

Eventually the Corsairs noticed Carmen was no longer of any use. And although being eaten at this point seemed in her mind the least troubling, a group of slavers were also attending Gamma at this time.
She picked up word that they were interested in buying her to serve as a slave on one of their bases.

When she woke up everything was pitch black, she couldn'€™t move or speak and felt like she was floating. After a few hours in her dark state she had figured she was in an escape pod or maybe even a human transport pod. For 2 days she sensed nothing but utter darkness and despair.

She knew that generally pods like this were equipped with oxygen for around 3 days. She also knew that slavers hardly valued the lives of slaves over the money oxygen would cost and she would soon be out of air.

Again thinking this would be her end, she decided to succumb to such a tragic death. But once again it was not meant to be as she suddenly felt a strong gravity pull and her pod started shaking.

Upon waking. she noticed that while the room was sparsely furnished. The bed was the best one she had been in for years. And although she appeared to be alive and relatively well, she didn't know yet where she was.

She soon found out about the base she was on and the conditions of her rescue; a Zoner patrol had found her and brought her to Freeport 9.

While staying at the Freeport to recover she reflected on her life'€¦ she told herself never again to serve anyone but herself, for her own gain. Because she had, in just over a year, lost all faith in people.

After working for a while to get sufficient credits, she bought herself a star blazer and set out to Omicron Alpha. As she flew to the system she noticed nothing had changed'€¦ For some reason it struck her and an unexplainable anger got over her. She could no longer bear to live amongst her own people.
She managed to get clearing to dock at Malta. Once at her home, which was surprisingly exactly in the same state as when she left, she took her secondary weaponry and her money and set off again. Leaving her entire old life behind.

To blend in she decided she would from that time fly an Eagle civilian very heavy fighter. She acquired one at Freeport 9 and armed it to the teeth with her outcast weaponry and her extreme apathy against life and mankind.

From there she set out to fly the universe and live for no cause but personal gain.
