are you saying , that just because somethings role is meant for defense obviously means it itself needs to have strong offense?
the key words that's been used for this ship is intelligence gathering and reconnaissance. nothing about combat. intelligence means everything in warfare. you RP the ship to gain intelligence of your enemy, its weak points, and discern the best way to take them out, and have the information sent to be processed by your main strike force.
you ask why this is necessary to have a capship that wont see combat?
Security. that and the likely hood if its not attacked your central intelegence doesnt get blown appart.
you need a secure, mobile base of operations and intelligence gathering. and you dont want leaks. hell, for a lack of weapons and big guns, i'd say it could also be more mobile than most cruisers.
the LSF's role might involve pvp, but the idea for this ship does not involve it to be in the middle of battle. it might be the focus of a battle, which is why the person rping it will want other people to assist in maintaining protection of it.
