I had always been a bright child, able to grasp the concepts presented me by my mother. My one failing, if it can be called such, was that I had extremely limited social contact. I do not think of that as a terrible blight on my history. Rather, I am grateful for it, as it helped me to blend in well with the Lane Hackers. But I get ahead of my story. I began attending the U of C in 804AS. I declared a major in computer science with a minor in military history. I did well, and made the Dean's List for ten consecutive terms. It would have been more, but for a social studies class in Winter 807 that I barely passed. I never did graduate, though.

In the summer of 808AS, I had the good fortune to meet a small boy, perhaps eight or nine. I noticed his right shoe was untied, and the way he was chasing his younger brother, I feared he would trip and injure himelf. I mentioned the fact to him, and he looked confused. I pointed to his foot and repeated what I had said. He looked at the ground, around in circles, and said in a small voice "I don't know how to tie my shoes." I asked if anyone had ever tried showing him how, and he said no. I pressed, what about your preschool teacher? and he merely shook his head and walked off to find his brother.
