That's quite nice for a first attempt, but here's what I'd suggest to improve it (all the while assuming that the blueish circle is a planet, and that you're using Photoshop):

First off, give the box part of the sig a border. Imo, even a simple black outline would frame it up quite nicely, and add to what's there currently.

Also, try adding sort of an atmosphere to the planet edge, because right now, it looks quite strange. More of a circle than anything else, really. Also, try to even out the colors used on the planet. Teal and brown don't mix very well in this scenario.

Another thing to do would be to perhaps add some stars in the background, on the right. It looks more like a gradient filler than a space background for the sig right now, imo.

Let's see... Oh yes, the lighting. The character render and the BH Bomber render have the lighting coming from the upper center, it seems, so it would be nice to accentuate this on the planet in the background a bit. I'd use the dodge and the burn tools for this.

Then there's the text. The font is nice, but as Sleipnir stated, the color simply doesn't blend well with the background. I'd suggest tinkering around with blending effects (such as Outer Glow), or simply changing the coloring on it, since brown and teal (as before) don't mix very well here.

Would be nice to see how that would look, just for comparison. I'm a visual person, but I still sometimes have trouble imagining how something will look in the end if it requires more than just a few steps to get there. As I said though, good work; it's very good for a first attempt, even though some tweaking here and there would be in order.
