While I think Grimly established pretty well why you commit the actions of piracy ingame, the reasoning provided by Ivan should still be taken into account. You should still be patriots on some level, and if people are trying to be your friends then you should treat them as such... rather than seeing "transport = money" like a "simple pirate" would. I remember when you started a little shipping event, and having run out of clientele I was at first interested. However, having some experience with supplying the Corsairs (experiences due to the common misconception that Corsair = pirate and nothing more) I asked if you would be pirating people who were in the process of shipping for you.

If I'm not mistaken, the answer was "yes, we pirate everyone".

I had hoped that this was me misunderstanding the reply given to me. Then a few weeks later I heard Baconsoda complaining about how the Sails had pirated him of gold he was taking to Crete, despite his assurances, references to times the Sails had escorted him on such voyages, and the fact that he's probably shipped as many or more artifacts as I have slaves (and I could found a reasonably sized city at this point). When he mentioned it in a comm channel, the response looked a lot like "well we can't be arsed to care" even when his references showed and tried to explain. References from within the Sails. Granted, I heard about that secondhand- but I thought I should mention it.

Is it just me, or does that looks like simply piracy rather than "taking what's yours"?

How dedicated are you to the reasons you've provided for piracy (which I find quite valid, by the way)? Is it a hand-wave for why you pirate on the server, or is it something you intend to hold to the core of what you do?

Any answer is acceptable, but I do want a straight answer. Were those past events slips that you intend to correct, or is "pirate everything" your modus operandi?
