While not necessarily on patrol, I ran into a few interesting things while earning my bomber qualifications, training out of the RNC Regensburg. I came into contact with what appeared to be a reservist military unit engaging a Volksfront fighter not more than 50 klicks from the docking bay of the battleship. I'd intercepted some of their transmissions to each other, some of which were of questionable content; at one point he appeared on the verge of accepting bribes by the VF pilot, and the next he betrayed himself as a simple executioner, saying that "Arresting is the ideal of the police, usually I just shoot people". Afterward I closed enough to scan them both with my primitive training craft's cargo scanner. Much to my surprise, he was actually flying a Mjolnir with a military ID and IFF. To my knowledge, this fighter is an RFP craft only, due to its power and function.
If these are the reservist pilots cruising our space lanes, flying restricted equipment and playing themselves off not as law enforcers, nor even as soldiers, but as 'executioners', then perhaps it is no wonder where the Military's reputation is coming from. Is a crackdown on these freelancing units necessary? I've seen plenty do great good, supporting when ordered, model reservists. But this is appalling. Ironically, he paid for it; the VF fighter killed him in the fight. Almost as if in redemption, another reservist, in proper garb, joined the fight mid-way, and kicked the Volksfront pilot across the system.
