It seems to be getting rather quiet lately, nothing but loose sorties of marauders is what we keep encountering. A group of Hessian terrorists was the biggest threat, even though it hardly classified as one against our armed forces. Regardless, allow me to begin my report with the introduction of the events that took place yesterday.
Immediately as I started the transfer of my Assault Wraith from Bremen to Berlin, I was hailed by a Polizei Kadet, called Kurt Meyer. He reported the encounter with a smaller Rot Front pirate force, consisting of a Heimdall, a Thor and a Pirate Transport, in Frankfurt. Since I was rather far away, I told him to keep the chatter up, while I was on my way, so that they wouldn't engage him outnumbered.
As I got there, the situation was not yet turned into a firefight, even though the sizable enemy force was facing Kadet Meyer alone. My scans have determined the Pirate Transport, designated as the [RF]Enteigner has already pirated shipments of Hydrocarbons, Military Vehicles and Robotic Components. I demanded him to jettison the goods for recollection and leave the area, after refusing, they started the usual "you lie" politics to confront my arguments along with the usual they are loyal to Rheinland and I'm a traitor stuff.
In about five minutes, I ordered the opening of fire, with the transport in focus. The two of us have quickly brought it down, even though we were shot at by the Heimdall as well as its bomber escort. The rest started to flee. We managed to bring the gunboat, designated as [RF]Furcht close to destruction, but it started evading into deep space, while the bomber, [RF]Erich.Paulus fled through a jump hole. Neither of the enemy combatant vessels was destroyed, but they were both heavily damaged.
Following the shootout, the Polizei sent in a recovery vessel, the RFP|Spandau to recollect the pirated goods, which it did successfully. I escorted the ship as it made its approach torwards New Berlin, where it landed and gave the goods to an RFP storage facility, with issuing the Military vehicles to be handled by one of our detachments.
Little afterwards, I assumed command of my gunboat, the Hansa while Gefreiter Fessel, Hauptfeldwebel Weissman and Hauptfeldwebel Weddigen did patrols of Rheinland.
In Berlin orbit, I encountered a Pilgrim-class colony vessel designated as Naglfar, frequently used by slavers for their runs. My sensors officer did a scan of the overly suspicious Junker vessel, determining the presence of thousands of human individuals in the ship's cargo hold. It was more than obviously a sign which led me to worry. I ordered the Junker to move away from the trade lanes and power down his systems, then introduced my suspicions of him being a slaver and harbouring slaves or to-be-slaves in his vessel.
The Junker kept assuring me that he was in fact, a refugee transport and the people he had on board were Leeds refugees. That, I found hard to believe. I asked him of his destination, then as he said Planet Holstein, the whole situation then became easier to handle. Me and Gefreiter Fessel told him he would be escorted to his destination, and the Junker complied. There were no troubles to deal with during our journey, the Naglfar made it to Holstein, loading his "passangers" off at one of the Daumann platforms.
The following day, we ran accross a Freelancer bomber, designated as Lynch, while on a patrol in Omega-7. We caught him in the middle of exchanging pilots with a Junker transport, designated as Grey's~Trans. Most of the pilots were of criminal organisations, however we did detect two of the Rheinland Military aswell.
We told him to give us the pilots and explain how they got into his hold, but the civilian replied they were infected soldiers, from Das Wilde. Since in the field, we were not equipped with nomad scanners, I couldn't rely on his word and told him to forward us proof. Instead of doing so, he passed the Rheinwehr pilots on to the Junker aswell, via a space elevator trade sequence, so it went unnoticed, and the Junker slipped away. Flieger Vogel, who was the other soldier in the field we too slow to act, even though I told him to do so earlier.
All that was left, was getting a reasonable explenation from the civilian for his actions. He started insulting us with telling we're like pirates, looking for a fight instead of forwarding an explenation, and fled torwards Freistadt, where he kept docking and undocking from the IMG station. He then started to insult us again, then burst into static, as he left torwards the Stuttgart lane.
We never got anything out of him besides his insults and telling us those pilots were Wilde and him telling us he is our ally, which was obviously not so, judging by his actions. I advise keeping a close eye on this individual if he would show up in Rheinland again.
Major Voelkel signing off.
