Windows 8?

I never used Windows 7 (or vista thank god) on my PCs. Firstly it was pointless on my old parents machine cause it'd run too slow. Using XP instead and even then it'd take 20mins to boot up.

And secondly I went the cheaper "legal" alternative of using Windows Server 2008r2 and converting it into a workstation OS for my new comp.
Apparently its free to use if you are student at any university or registered school.

However... it is a pain sometimes. And I know its not supposed to be used as an OS for a regular PC. But I haven't had any major issues. Everything runs smoothly and I'm coping well. And I'm glad I saved myself a few bucks for a less user friendly environment.

I'll probably upgrade to Server 8 when it goes final. At the moment I can get it in beta... but that'd probably be a pain. I dunno if it's true but isn't 8 meant to be a little cleaner in the code than 7 and performs somewhat a little better? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't see the point in getting Windows 8, except for Tablet PCs (only in the x86 architecture of course) and touch screen comps. The ARM alternative doesn't seem to be appealing unless I got my parents them a tablet in the future. (This I doubt seeing as never use a PC and label it as the "Devil's Machine")

At the moment though for PC tablets, using 7 on a tablet is a pain. But I imagine 8 is aimed at allowing users a more user friendly environment for touch screens. Especially with the new metro. Personally, I don't really like the new "Metro Apps" concept that Micro$oft is putting on all of their devices.

All up I won't be bothering getting Windows 8. I guess its becoming like apple where your only paying for the User Experience and a system that is more fault free. But I dunno what to expect the final OS to perform like. It may just become another Vista...
