Title: Untitled.
That was relatively painless. The trek across Texas was, as expected, completely mundane. We arrived at Vieques yesterday "afternoon", stowed the two fighters in Alsatia's cargo bays and spent the night on board. I actually was starting to miss the "hen house". Sure, staying planet side every now and then is nice, but I just feel at home here. Plus it allows me to have some private time with Misaka. We're all pretty liberal when it comes to skinship around each other on board the Alsatia, so long as little Sakura is asleep or otherwise not present. Cramped up on the floor of someone else's guest bedroom is a different kettle of fish.
Putting that aside.
I managed to extract the map data from Alsatia's computer system and download them to a flash drive. Every jumphole, jumpgate and tradelane, as well as every civilian, military and unlawful base in the entire Liberty house will very shortly be available to Rall and his team. All that I need to do now is hand it over.
I figure, since I'm here, I should dig out the Salvager and make some money. The grapevine told me Vierlande Prison in Hamburg is buying scrap metal for a good price, supposedly to prop up the prisoners' hard labour.
So it looks like another trip to the remains of the Dallas Incident is in order. Either I stumbled on the best-kept secret in the Junkers universe or I'm the only one crazy enough to willingly fly into a radioactive dust cloud. Either way I've been making a killing off what I haul out. Steel is the most common, and has a decent price. The real money makers are expensive alloys. Every now and then I'll drag in a piece of machinery or something, full of copper or superconductors or some other tasty metal.
The cost of maintaining the radiation shielding is small compared to the ease of which I can turn a profit with this stuff. It beats the hell out of smuggling across blockades or getting shot at by raiders at every turn, that's for sure. No-one bats an eye at a Salvager, not police, not military, not pirates. They all assume I have nothing of value on board. Just the way I like it.
