Max's constant lack of income, guidance (after parting ways with his partents) and general purpose in life were all inadvertantly fixed 6 years ago when a transport ship carrying vacationers including his Grandmother was tragically destroyed by pirates. As terrible as an event this was she left Max a reasonable amount of credits with which he was able to complete basic piloting licenses and purchase his first vessel.
