Ten days Ago
Planet London
Queen Carrina Hospital

James North walked along the corridor, followed by six heavily armed prison guards from Newgate. Creating panic and chaos as patients, nurses and doctors scrambled out of their way. And malicious smile crossed his face watch as a patient was slightly to slow and was thrown through a set of swing doors by the nearest prison guard. They rounded the corner and came to a stop outside the witness’s room. All but one of the prison guards fanning out and covering the corridor with there stub nose shotguns.

“This him?”

“It is, we need to get him secured and on the transport within an hour. Can I trust your men to get it done?”

The prison sergeant controlled the urge to smash the idiots face.

“The man’s is a vegetable and my team is the best, just like you asked for. We can handle this, when will we get the orders through?”

James swallowed hard, and then lied.

“The orders are being written up as we speak, once the chief signs it you will have it in writing. How long to the evac chopper gets here?”

“Eighteen minutes. Best get the prisoner up to top now”

James was cut off of mid sentence….

“You, you there what is the meaning of this?”

Great thought James, as the doctor red faced approached him. Only to be tackled by the prison sergeant. Still gripping the Doctor the sergeant turned to speak to James.

“You deal with this fool; we will move the prisoner to the roof.”

With that he dropped the doctor on his arse and nodded to the nearest prison guard. As the guard moved in to the room and began switching of monitors and disconnecting from the prisoner. The doctor look up at James dumbfounded.

“Prisoner? This man is a patient of this hospital and under my direct supervision, what is the meaning of this?

As the doctor stood up and dusted himself of he shot glance at the prison sergeant.

“Explain this now!”

“Listen doc, we got orders. This man is now a suspect in a murder investigation; you should have received my orders prior to us coming. I am sorry if you didn’t we a have problems at head office with our comms system.”

James lied again…He was beginning to find it easier. The doctor eyed him with suspicion.

“That may be so but I can not allow you to take him now he is due a protein shot to stop the risk of Kwashiorkor. If you are taking him you need to let me give him his meds. I will also have his note collected”

The doctor turned towards the prison sergeant the contempt written across his face.

“You will need a doctor to travel with him, I will have my appointments cancelled, you Chief medic is still Dr Sing? Let him know Dr Miller will expect him at the airlock with a full medical team when I arrive.”

“Yes doctor, if your coming be quick we need to move”

“Ready Sarg. Peterson and Harrison have cleared the route to the service elevator. It will take us to the roof. Evac is five minutes out”

The guard voice was muffled under the face mask but James was sure he heard a bit of stress in those words, he waited to Dr Miller was of round the corner before speaking.

“We really need him with us?”

“Yes Mr North you may think me stupid but you and I know this isn’t exactly a legit transfer. And that man could land both of us in lot of trouble if he contacts either one of are bosses.”

James wanted to bolt, but managed to control his legs. He hadn’t heard anyone else say it, but this was illegal. His entire career and life was on the line. It all rested on a zombie, if he didn’t…..

“Bit late for second thoughts Mr North, beside we are moving now”

The sergeant began barking orders and his team moved efficiently to the service elevator. The point man sweeping doorways and adjoining corridors. It only took minutes to reach the elevator. The tension among the guards rose as the elevator moved upwards passing floor after floor.

“Fraking Music, Why do they have to play such crap? Me I prefer the classics you know”

The sergeant with a confident look on his face glanced at the guard.

“Focus Rafferty”

The guard shrugged as the elevator pinged and the doors opened, raising his weapon he stepped out towards the left hand side of the roof, mirrored on the right by another, followed by two more.

“Clear”

The sergeant was next, follow by the last two guards pushing the prisoner’s hospital bed. James exited last. The Evac shuttle waited for them, so did doctor Miller and an orderly.

“Rafferty, Peterson, watch the roofs.”

The sergeant strode toward the chopper the guard pushing the bed directly behind him. He was less the twenty-five yards away when all hell broke lose. Rafferty’s head exploded in a mist of pink and white, quickly followed by one of the guards pushing the bed.

“Sniper!”

The sergeant hadn’t even finished saying it before he hit the ground, followed quickly by the other guards, Peterson rammed into James knocking him to the floor.

“Keep you head down sir, things just got interesting”

Peterson crawled toward the lip of the roof hugging the wall.

“Sarge you get a gander of the spot?”

“Not a cl……”

The sergeant was cut off and a shot rang out.

“Sarge? Sarge? Crap!”

“Get your **** together, he only clipped me, hes on the building to your eleven o’clock.”

“Stubs aren’t going reach that far”

“Tell me something useful, Sound off boys. Davis?"

One of the guards who were pushing the prisoner peered over the corpse of his team mate.

“All good boss, sniper got me in his sights but I am good.”

James stared and the scene in front of him. Two guards dead, one he couldn’t see. The rest unable to move like him, for fear of losing their heads. He couldn’t see the doctor but the orderly was on the ground, the pool of blood he was lying in kind of give it away he was dead. What the hell was going on?

Berrrrrrrt. The roar of the shuttles cannon as it tore into the building with the sniper brought everyones attention to the shuttle. The co-pilot was crouched beside it taking aim with a grenade launcher. The gunner was gritting his teeth and straining against the recoil of the cannon as it spat its rounds into the building. Suddenly the sergeant stood up a limped a fast as he could toward the prisoner and began pushing the bed toward the chopper, the other guard followed suit. Peterson stood and began fire uselessly at the building. James scrambled to his feet and rushed towards the chopper. The explosion let everyone know the co-pilot had fired. Less than five yards from the shuttle the sergeant fell almost as though he had stumbled on his injured leg, when the other guard fell clutching his stomach, James froze. There was no way the sniper was still alive. He shot a quick look at the building. It was awash with flames and the shuttles cannon were still tearing chunks out of it. James caught the look on Petersons face, he had lowered his weapon and tears had began to roll don his cheeks. James turned to toward the direction he was looking…..

“****”

Everything slowed down, James even noticed Dr Miller pushing the prisoner away from the chopper with his body carrying one of the guards stub nose shotguns. Behind the shuttle, the horizon was blotted out. An armed forces gunship rose over the building and swung round to aim its weapons towards the roof. The flash of its weapons was the only warning the shuttle pilot had before he was torn to pieces along with theshuttle as the gunship rounds struck it a close range. James was hurled into the air in the resulting explosion.

As he lay amongst the rubble swimming in and out of conciseness, shell shocked, his vision swam with white fleck, and his hearing dulled, James struggled to move. Pinned beneath debris his vision returned slowly as he lay there. He glanced up at the sky……
